May 2017 - Salvador Sobral (born 1989 in Lisbon), a Portuguese jazz musician, enters the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev. With his eyes closed - Chet Baker style - he starts singing a jazz ballad and mesmerizes millions of people. No dancers, no laser show, no ESC glamour.

Salvador and his song "Amar Pelos Dois" (written by his sister) get the highest score in the history of the contest, making him the first Portuguese winner of the ESC ever.

"We live in a world of disposable music; fast-food music without any content... Music is not fireworks, music is feeling. So let's try to change this and bring music back which is really what matters." - Salvador Sobral says in his acceptance speech.

Sobral studied psychology at the Superior Institute of Applied Psychology Lisbon, but his enormous passion for music prevailed, making him one of the biggest promises in the Portuguese and Spanish music scene. After having spent some time in the United States and four years in Barcelona studying jazz in the prestigious school ̈Music Workshop ̈, the singer went back to Portugal where he launched his first original album.

In Portugal, Salvador Sobral has performed with several of the most respected names in national jazz. His latest album ̈Excuse Me ̈, co-produced by pianist Julio Resende, the talented Venezuelan composer Leonard Aldrey, and Salvador himself, was published by one of the most prestigious Portuguese discographers - Valentim de Carvalho.

In April / May 2019 the singer will be touring in Germany and Switzerland, accompanied by his jazz trio (Piano: Júlio Resende / Bass: André Rosinha / Drums: Bruno Pedroso).
